Deleter 1.04 Deleter will allow you to Mark files for deletion and then delete them. Read-Only are not deleted - when deleter comes to one it will print 'protected' next to it in the 'delete' window. Hidden and System files are not even listed - so are quite safe from accidental deletion. Deleter comprises two(2) work windows and two(2) help screens. You have temporary sort options which only changes your 'view' of the files - ie it doesn't move them about. The windows are sizeable/zoomable - press F1 for help. A general quideline is that pressing the 'ESC' key will close windows/screens. Directory Window : simply lists the directories available - press the ENTER key to enter the desired directory, after using the up/down cursor keys to highlight it - remember '..' refers to a 'parent' directory or the one 'above' the one you are in. Although you may 'tag' directories with the space bar there is no provision to delete them. The heading of the directory window refers to the complete path of that directory and lists the files in the directory ( hidden and system files are not listed ), you may 'tag' any of these files, in any order and skipping as many or as few as you wish, by pressing the space bar, to move around use the cursor keys. After tagging files press the F10 key to process those files, in this case the process will delete them - ie remove them from the system. Deletion Window : you can see your files being deleted, files marked Read-Only will not be deleted and a message that they have been protected will be displayed. The two pop-up Screens are available at any time - simply press the F1 or F2 key Deleter also has two options (see SYNTAX for more) Password - contact K-Ware to a) find out what it is or b) have a version of deleter with a password of your choice put in, this new password will be always be valid for THAT version. File report - produces a report of files that have been processed, either deleted or protected, along with the time and date it was done. This 'audit trail' is saved in a file called delstat.rep in the Root directory of Drive C. Files Protected : The following files are protected (if you *really* wish to delete them then you shall have to use something else). In general they are files important to maintain the integrity of the operating system. Suitable for MSDOS(2.11 to 7.0); DRDOS (3.35 to 6.0) and OS2 files (in FAT partitions). In most cases they are hidden, and therefore not even listed by deleter - but just in case :) FILE REASON DRBDOS .SYS DRDOS 3.35 System file DRBIOS .SYS DRDOS 3.35 System file 4DOS .COM 4DOS Command interpreter NDOS .COM Norton DOS (NDOS) Command Interpreter IO .DOS Win95 MSDOS .--- Win95 MSDOS .DOS Win95 MSDOS .W40 Win95 COMMAND .COM MSDOS; DRDOS; PCDOS; Win95 CONFIG .SYS MSDOS; DRDOS; PCDOS; OS2; Win95 AUTOEXEC.BAT MSDOS; DRDOS; PCDOS; OS2; Win95 You may not see some of these files under Windows95 since some of them come about only under special circumstances - eg the .W40 files are only seen when you are running a previous version of DOS instead of Win95 - chosen at the Win95 startup though. So if you have accidentally deleted - take IMMEDIATE steps, as soon as you realize, either contact a consultant, programmer or someone *familar* with the procedures necessary. Some versions of DOS help in this regard, but remember - if it IS important, be sure.
